Newly Changed Items: Code Share Operations

Preamble:

This Handbook should be read by all members. Refer to this manual from time to time and note any changes as they occur. Generally, this handbook will be reviewed every three months. Make sure you are familiar with the most recent revision.

About Ansett Virtual:

Ansett Virtual was established by a number of real world Ansett staff, including Pilots, Ramp Workers, Engineers and Administrators. Since then we have been joined by a very wide variety of flightsim and Ansett enthusiasts. Our base of operations is in beautiful Melbourne, Australia, but we are pleased to have members from all over the world who share an interest in what was once the World's Greatest Airline.

Joining Ansett Virtual:

Joining is easy! Submit an application form, HERE.

New pilots are always welcome, and you will be afforded as much assistance as you need to meet your desired goals. Pilots joining from other VA's will, of course, have their full hours credited to them and receive a suitable CAT Rating. Submit your FS Logbook and provide a link to the Roster page of your current VA so that your hours may be verified where necessary. You will still be required to complete your first flight using our CAT 1 aircraft. On successful completion of your first PIREP you name will be added to our Roster and your previous hours can then be verified.

New pilots, without previous experience, may begin their career with us in Regional Services. Progress through the ranks and ratings at Ansett Virtual may be a little slower than a lot of other VA's, but rest assured that the level of training and experience you have at your disposal along the way is second to none... placing you in good stead with any virtual airline you choose to work with.

Career Path:

You may choose to start with any one of our Regional services. Pilots joining from other VA's may have their full Virtual Flight time credited to them, and you will be rated and assigned according to our general requirements.

Our Hubs:

Our Headquarters are located in Melbourne, Australia and this is our major hub.
Our other Australian Hubs are Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney and Perth. At the time of joining us you must nominate which of these hubs you would choose to operate from. Your Hub may be changed if you feel you want to fly from any of our other hubs. As we get more pilots and have more structure to our roster, pilots may have to apply for transfer to a different hub. Your choice of Hub does not in any way effect your flight Selection Options. At this time our International hubs include Auckland; this list will grow as our International network grows.

International Operations:

Pilots with high enough CAT endorsement are able to fly to some very interesting places particularly in Asia and the Pacific. We hope to grow our International network into something that provides our pilots with an enormous amount of challenge, interest and satisfaction.

Top

Domestic Operations:

We link all of Australia's capital cities, delivering passengers and freight several times each day. Of particular importance to us are our services between Sydney and Melbourne. This is the busiest domestic corridor in the world and a very competitive market to operate in (in real world aviation terms, of course).
Pilots on this service need to have their act well and truly together.

Code Share Operations (NEW)

Any valid flight operated under the "Star Alliance" group will be eligible for approval and inclusion in Pilots Log via the Manual Ansett VA Pirep System, FSACARS or FS Passenger reporting systems.

The following regulations must be adhered to at all times when flying one of these routes:

1. All pilots must first download, then use the current "Star Alliance" timetable available here:
http://www.staralliance.com/en/services ... imetables/

2. For FSACARS reporting The Flight Plan (
http://www.ansett-va.com/an_pirep/fsacars_fp_gen.php ) must be manually filled out prior to flight.

3.
ALL Pireps/Plans/Reports regardless of what system is used MUST include the following information:

a. Star Alliance Flight number in as per current timetable
preceded by the Ansett identifier "AN" eg. ANUA163 (United Airlines Boston-Los Angeles)

b. Route. (This is the sole responsibility of the pilot and must be included in the plan/PIREP). FS9 and FSX will generate routes automatically but you can use any other appropriate program eg. Route Finder (here)
   http://rfinder.asalink.net/free/

c. Aircraft used. The pilot must be qualified to fly the route according to the aircraft type used in the timetable
eg if B767 listed, then any but only CAT4 aircraft will be accepted in the PIREP

d. Timetable Reference. To assist processing your PIREP the page and column reference from the Star Alliance timetable should be noted in the "Pilots Comments" section of the PIREP

e. If flying on line (VATSIM or IVAO) reference must be made to the Ansett affiliation with these flights by using the AN prefix with the Flight Number eg. ANUA163 (United Airlines Boston - Los Angeles)

Due to the longer manual checking of the PIREP that must occur, strict compliance to these regulations is required. PIREPS will not be returned for "Re-Submits" if information is incorrect or missing. They will be logged as "Not Accepted"

Aircraft codes used in timetable available here:

Regional Operations:

Our five regional subsidiaries cover most of the outlying areas of Australia. Pilots in regional services are able to fly, in our opinion, some of the most interesting routes in the world and in a good variety of Aircraft. From the beautiful Whitsunday Islands in Queensland to the great desert mining towns of Western and Southern Australia to the longest regional route in the world (Cairns to Bamaga with Flight West) the variety and fascination is endless. Our regional pilots must be the most fortunate in the world.

Top

Freight Operations:

Not quite as extensive as our passenger services, but we deliver freight to all of Australia's major domestic and regional centres. Plans are currently on the table for extending these services with the inclusion of the B747-400F for international freight delivery and the possible conversion of our older B767-200s to freighter configuration.

Top

Maintenance and Delivery:

Our machines need maintenance from time to time. We will schedule maintenance for the fleet and it will be posted in the maintenance section of the forum.

While we are undergoing fleet upgrade, new machines will need delivery from Airbus in Toulouse, France and Boeing in Seattle, America. Although these flights are non-revenue, pilots claim the usual compensation for making them.

Top

Flight Selection:

At this time we do not use any kind of bidding system for regular services. This may change as our roster grows but for now you may simply choose any flight for Aircraft types that you are endorsed for. Fly that flight and submit a PIREP and your hours will be adjusted. Visit our Route pages to discover the expansive selection of flights at your disposal. Our flights are broken down into several categories for ease of selection. We also offer an advance flight selection tool for finding flights by specific Departure, Arrival or Aircraft.

Flight Reporting PIREP:

After making a flight, please submit a report so that your records may be updated. Make sure that the PIREP you submit is consistent with your Rank and Aircraft Assignment.

Filling PIREPs can be done in two ways. First way is to use our Online PIREP form. This can be found in the "Pilot Center" section. You will be required to logon in order to gain access to this page.

The second method of filing a PIREP, is to use FSACARS. All the required files are created when you first register. If you need to download the files again, they can be downloaded from "Tools". Main setup will create all files and folders. Ini setup will only create the AN.ini file required for Ansett VA.Visit the forum for complete instructions on setting up and using FSACARS.

                                                                                                                                                               Top

Training:

Any flights that do not meet our listed schedules must be filed as "training".

You can also fly in aircraft above your CAT rating and file it as training. You may be asked to change your flight purpose to training, if we deem it to not meet the listed schedules or your CAT rating.

Training hours are recorded against your total hours, but are not taken into account when you apply for Captain status for that aircraft.

Top

Inactivity:

We would like to see you flying everyday, but that is just not realistic.

To maintain your status on the roster, you are required to submit a PIREP at least once a month. It can be one of the shorter flights, if you like, as long as you are active.

In our private lives we all have distractions and there are times we have to prioritize what we are doing with our own time. If you find that you will not be able to fly for a month or more, you can edit your details and indicate "Leave". This will be reflected on the roster. Leave, at this stage, is open ended, your next PIREP after taking leave will indicate that your have started flying again.

If you have not submitted a PIREP for one calendar month and no application for leave has been submitted, leave will be assumed and reflected on the Pilot Roster. After a further 30 days, Resignation will be assumed and you will be removed from the Pilot Roster altogether. At this time there are spaces available on the Roster, so another application from you after removal will more than likely be accepted. When the Roster is full, you may not be granted readmission. Please be aware of that.

Top

Resignation:

Should you find that this VA does not fulfil your expectations, we would like to hear about that. There is almost always something that can be done to meet the different requirements of our Pilots. Should you choose to resign for any reason, it would be a courtesy to inform the Committee in writing of your intention. No questions will be asked, you will simply be removed from the Roster with our very best wishes.

Online Flying:

Online flying is encouraged, but by no means compulsory, as it does involve some organizing. Online flying can greatly enhance not only the simulation experience but also your skill as a Virtual Airline Pilot. The files and applications necessary for online flying may be downloaded from our Pilot Resources page. Be sure to identify yourself as an Ansett Virtual pilot and be sure also to complete any flight that you commence online, as a courtesy to the other participants. When flying under the Ansett Virtual banner, please make sure you are flying a route and aircraft type for which you are endorsed.

Online flying certainly counts toward your accumulation of hours, in some cases bonus hours may apply for online flying.

Member Behavior:

Flight Simulation and Virtual Airlines are a hobby, enjoyed by many thousands of people around the world. There are as many opinions as there are people within this hobby and opinions cannot always meet with the agreement of all. When flying online, joining chat rooms, leaving messages in forums or emailing members of other VA's remember that you are representing Ansett Australia VA and your behaviour will reflect on us all.

• Do not use foul or derogatory language.
• When flying online, Do not break any of the server rules. Any reports of this will result in removal from Ansett VA.
• Do not misrepresent the policies of Ansett Virtual.
• Do not misrepresent our connection to the real Ansett Australia - there isn't one.
• Do not commit Ansett Virtual agreements for which you have no authority to do.
• Do not make racist remarks, or remarks which may be religiously or culturally offensive.

We don't have a formal policy on dealing with poor member behaviour at this time, it has never actually happened. But, you can almost count on a formal warning on the first occurrence then irreversible removal from the Pilot Roster on the second occurrence.

Any reported breach of the aforementioned behaviour guidelines will be investigated, and the offending party, if guilty, will be removed from the Roster.
